Yvonne Appiah Dadson, a PhD student in Information Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY and Graduate Research Assistant with the Extreme Events Social Equity & Technology (E2SET) lab has been selected as a 2024 Bill Anderson Fund (BAF) Fellow.
Yvonne’s research focuses on the multifaceted challenges that socially vulnerable populations, particularly immigrants, face in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters. Her systematic literature review on this topic, titled; “Experiences of Immigrants During Disasters in the US: A Systematic Literature Review,” published in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, highlights the critical issues of inequitable access to resources and disproportionate impacts experienced by immigrant communities.
This work directly advances MACH’s mission of understanding and improving resilience for underserved coastal populations on the frontlines of growing climate hazards. Yvonne’s research has been presented at major hazards and resilience venues, including the Disaster Research Center’s 60th Anniversary Workshop, FEMA Higher Education Symposium, and the Natural Hazards Research Workshop.
