Insurance Innovation Pilot in Eastwick, Philadelphia

Kousky, CarolynLead: Carolyn Kousky

MACH Co-PI Carolyn Kousky leads research focused on flood insurance, with an emphasis on developing more equitable recovery models. This project, supported by MACH-affiliated researchers Talley Burley and Grace Rogers, focuses on the Eastwick neighborhood of Philadelphia, where she is exploring alternative insurance approaches. This involves reviewing past studies, analyzing city data, and engaging with local partners, insurance providers, and government officials to better understand existing challenges. The researchers are also evaluating innovative insurance models based on criteria such as compatibility with current policies, effectiveness, affordability, sustainability, required effort, and stakeholder involvement. This research not only supports the Eastwick community but also offers valuable insights for other cities seeking more equitable climate recovery strategies.
