Values in Research Design

Helgeson, CaseyLead: Casey Helgeson
Counselor: Nancy Tuana

This research, led by Casey Helgeson, examines value judgments in climate-risk research and how those values affect the research's usefulness for real-world decision-making. The values of stakeholders and decision makers can often differ from those who conduct the research. When these differences are not acknowledged or included in the research process, the research produced may lack relevance to the desired end user or may even lead to policy recommendations that don't fit communities' needs. The publications below illustrate frameworks for deliberative and transparent incorporation of relevant values into research processes.
