Intergovernmental Fiscal Flows Simulation Model

Lead: Junghoon Lee
Counselor: Clint Andrews
MACH researcher Junghoon Lee is studying how money moves between local, state, and federal governments after disasters. To better understand and explain how these funds are distributed, Lee uses public finance data from sources like the U.S. Census of Governments, New Jersey municipalities, and a dataset tracking financial flows after Hurricane Sandy. This data is then used to create simulations showing how different government agencies might respond to disasters and considers scenarios where the federal government helps cover local budget deficits. While this research is not meant to guide local decisions directly, it could help shape broader public policy and social science.
