Effect of Bathymetric changes on Water-level variation in estuaries

Effect of bathymetric changes on water-level variation in estuaries

This project explores how estuarine bathymetric changes affect flood hazards in the MACH region. This will be done by 1) developing and validating a moving boundary approach that determines patterns of erosion and deposition as a function of sea-level variations and sediment supply variations with a geomorphic laboratory experiment. 2) Providing different scenarios of bathymetric change as input for existing tropical and extra-tropical cyclone flood models and quantify its effect on flood hazards. 3) Extending the moving boundary approach to account for the water discharge variations from the estuary and quantify the complex interplay between water levels due to storm surges, sediment transport, and bathymetric changes.
