Research Updates: Since the last news update, this focus area, representing three sub-projects, has updates to report for two of the ongoing projects. Brief sub-project level updates are provided below:
- Insurance Innovation Pilot In Eastwick (Philadelphia): Identified both private sector and regulatory barriers to moving forward with the preferred approach of a parametric microinsurance offering for flood. Organized an information session with the state insurance commissioner’s office to discuss the regulatory uncertainty associated with parametric insurance. In conversations with two groups that might be able to supply private provider coverage (these conversations are ongoing). This group has also discussed drafting a report summarizing the scoping work so that other cities can learn from it; this has not yet been completed.
- Pathways To A Soft And Equitable Landing From Unpriced Climate Risks In US Housing Markets: A a review/perspective piece drafted by this sub-project was recently submitted, “Pathways to a soft and equitable landing from unpriced climate risks in US housing markets”, it is currently under review at the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy. This sub-project was recently presented to the MACH Collaborative Stakeholder Advisory Panel and the MACH Government Advisory Committee. This sub-project also began analysis on the effect of updating flood risk information on residential sorting.
