On March 12, Lisa Auermuller, Administrative Director of MACH, presented during the plenary panel. Lisa’s talk discussed how MACH aims to bring together researchers and stakeholders to effectively inform the critical challenges of equitable climate risk management.
Hosted by the New Jersey Coastal Resilience Collaborative and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the 2024 New Jersey Coastal & Climate Resilience Conference was held on March 12th through 14th at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. It brought together hundreds of coastal and climate resilience professionals and practitioners with the goals of: 1) Engaging with New Jersey experts and leaders on the current state of coastal science and research, climate resilience and resilience planning, coastal management, ecological restoration, and other related topics. 2) Fostering peer-to-peer learning on what makes for a successful project with community buy-in, whether it be a restoration project, a municipal resilience plan, or a floodplain buyout. And 3) Offering networking opportunities to build relationships & cultivate useful collaborations. Zoe Linder-Baptie, a Research Project Manager at Rutgers and part of the Stakeholder and Engagement team of MACH, moderated a panel on impacts from climate change on affordable housing in New Jersey and Lisa also moderated a roundtable discussion on municipal challenges to resilience. Other MACH researchers who presented coastal research (not funded by MACH) were in attendance including Janine Barr and Jorge Lorenzo-Trueba.
