Adaptation Strategy Design Focus Area

*Join us in person at our upcoming MACH annual meeting to hear the latest updates on MACH news and research.*

Research Updates: Since the last news update, the Adaptation Strategy Design focus area, representing two sub-projects, has continued to make research progress, and collectively, two new articles have been published since the last news update in October 2024. Brief sub-project level updates are provided below:

  • Lessons Learned: Transitioned to a retrospective analysis. Completed final revisions on a manuscript about the values-informed mental models framework titled, “Integrating Values to Improve the Relevance of Climate‐Risk Research”; the paper was accepted and published at Earth’s Future. This sub-project also began a new collaboration (with the above group) to co-produce research with the USFWS to support decision-making at the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.
    • Collaborating with the assistant regional director for the northeast region of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) on a project that has strong integrative links to MACH. Bringing in other researchers across projects to organize long-term co-produced research with USFWS (and hopefully other agencies and decision-makers down the line) in the NJ back bays.
    • One MACH researcher in this group is designing a PhD paper sequence towards decision analysis studies focused on the NJ back bays.
    • One researcher in this group is finalizing a study on the timing of managed retreat.
    • One researcher in this group is focusing on how urban stormwater systems can account for uncertain future situations.
